Our Purpose

The purpose of the TJHS Historical Preservation Society is to provide a focal point for the leadership and involvement required to develop and implement plans to preserve and encourage the preservation of buildings, objects, and places related to the historical significance of Thomas Jefferson High School and it’s architectural and natural beauty.  We want to conserve and preserve the historical significance of TJHS for those who walk through it’s doors today and those that have come before.  We wish to use the past  to help guide the people of the future

Thomas Jefferson High School, originally designed in the architectural style of  Mission / Spanish revival with the interior and exterior detail of Spanish renaissance  and Mexican American Indian sources.  Designed by the local firm Adams and Adams, and completed with the assistance of local artisan and workers in 1932.  In 1983 the high school was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and in 1995, it was included in the City of San Antonio Local Historic District.  Located on 33-Acre site, northwest of the center of San Antonio, Texas, it is the cornerstone of the local community and we would like to inform you of our efforts to encourage the preservation or it’s rich history, architectural integrity and historical significance, both now and into the future.
